What is TAN Number?

TAN stands for Tax Deduction Account Number or Tax Collection Account Number. TAN is a 10 -digit alpha-numeric number issued by the Income Tax Department. TAN number is mandatory for all persons who are responsible for deducting TDS (tax deducted at source)  or TCS (tax collected at source).
